Bio
Kirk Guthaus
I have been active as a professional musician, specializing in classical guitar and other fretted instruments, for nearly 20 years. Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to perform at venues and events all around the world. I studied guitar and jazz studies at Michigan State University, which led to an 11-year career performing with the U.S. Army Bands.
After my time in the Army, I transitioned into working in public education, focusing on special education, where I continue to integrate music into the classroom to support student growth and learning. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, a Master’s degree in Humanities, and certificates in Autism Education, Musicianship, Ethnomusicology, and Music Research. I am currently pursuing a Master of Music in Music Education to further strengthen my skills as both an educator and performer.
My philosophy of music education, which I call Adaptive Music, focuses on making music accessible to learners of all abilities. Through this approach, I work with nonprofit organizations, helping them design and develop their own adaptive music programs to better serve diverse communities.
Through performance, teaching, and collaboration, I strive to create musical experiences that are inclusive, inspiring, and transformative.
